UC Webmasters aim to regain title after nearly a decade
The University of Cebu offers a whole range of wide opportunities and multiple scholarships to its students, continuing its 42-year tradition of quality education.
UC’s pioneering advances in computer technology inspired the university’s athletic teams to identify as “Websmasters,” with athletes getting the training, experience, and most importantly education, to meet the university’s high educational standards.
In basketball, the Webmasters is most notable for producing June Mar “The Kraken” Fajardo, three-time CESAFI basketball MVP (2009, 2010, and 2011), holding the most number of MVPs in the league. Fajardo now plays center for the San Miguel Beermen of the Philippine Basketball Association, where he has also won multiple MVP awards.
This season, the UC Webmasters college basketball team is aiming to put an end to an almost-decade championship drought in this tournament. Recalling their performance last season, the Webmasters admit that after winning over the CIT-U Wildcats, they became a little too confident, in the process underestimating their succeeding opponents. They never got a chance to regain their form in last season’s semi’s against UV Green Lancers.
The UC Webmasters started their tryouts in April at their home floor, the Cebu Coliseum, and immediately begun training with their champion head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba. The team’s rookies, including an import, promise to bring a reinvigorated Webmasters this season 19.–Edelyn Itaoc, CESAFI Media Bureau
